If it comes to it, I will have to uninstall the update (if possible) and just wait for a future possibility where they might do another update that fixes this issue.I tried FortiClient SSLVPN which was installed with Fortinet Web portal so I watched it with Wireshark and I saw my virtual Fortissl adapter not working correctly.

Problem is, I deal with hundreds of companies that rely on this VPN capability and are not going to be happy when they have to spend hundreds or thousands of $$ to enable Anyconnect because Cisco stopped developing IPSec software 4 years ago. Yeah I know I should use the Anyconnect client. I use the Cisco VPN client software at least 3 or 4 times a day and after how messed up it was on Vista and a bit on Windows 7, I was very pleased that installing and using it on 8 was completely painless. Operating system corruption may be preventing installation." Sure enough, if I uninstalled the Cisco client, the update went right through. A couple people mentioned issues with the Cisco and the Fortigate client. So after days of searching and testing and checking logs, I found a page that mentions a similar problem with the big 8.1 update that was recently released and that it could have problems installing if you have a VPN program installed. Everything was fine but this is a large update with a bunch of stuff in it so I need to get it installed or I am sure it will be one of those that prevents a later update.

On reboot it would go to 80% of finishing the install and then say it failed and revert the system. It would do a normal install and require a reboot. I prefer they be stable over squeezing any extra performance from them.Įverything has been great on these machines until this update came out.

Both are standard Intel Core i5 machines with Windows 8.1 Pro or Enterprise (home and work respectively) and minimal tweaking, just your normal wallpaper, screen savers, that kind of thing.

So for the last 2 days I have been fighting to get update KB291355 installed on my work computer and home PC.
